New Cadet Orientation Program

THERE WILL BE NO NEW CADET ORIENTATION PROGRAM FOR THE 2017-2018 YEAR.

New Students

Welcome to the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Detachment 550, located at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute! As a new student or a prospective student, you undoubtedly have questions about joining the program. The links under the New Student tab provide information on joining the program and include our most current schedule of classes and activities.

Air Force ROTC is unique in a variety of ways. Cadets receive the necessary education and training to become Airmen and earn a commission in the United States Air Force while attending university classes. Cadets operate and run most of the training with cadre guidance, meaning cadets run the majority of the activities! In addition, unlike their academy or military school counterparts, Air Force ROTC students must carefully balance academic and other extracurricular activities with Air Force ROTC.

Academics is the top priority at Detachment 550! Students who join Detachment 550 have an instant group of potential tutors and mentors in their fellow cadets. Cadre also keep a watchful eye on academic performance and can quickly link students to university resources.

Pursuing a career as an Airman and earning a commission in the United States Air Force is a unique, rewarding and exciting experience. We hope you will join us and see for yourself!
